The President’s success or failure is not equivalent to the success or failure of the nation. Equating the success/failure of the glorious leader with the success/failure of the nation is pure authoritarian drivel. The essence of classical liberalism, now called Conservatism or Libertarianism, is the rejection of notions like these. Liberal Fascists never failed to complain about alleged equating of loyalty to the nation with support for Bush’s foreign policy. They were right to say that to do so is wrong (although they miss the point that cheer-leading for our enemies definitely is disloyalty) but they need to apply this across the board, or the are just opportunists and hypocrites. Let’s get something straight. What Obama wants to do is restructure American society along lines of socialist economic planning, redistribution of wealth, and enormous power of the state over personal freedoms. He wants to do so because, in his mind, its for our own good. And the essence of liberals is generally that they agree with that. But they are wrong to believe that they have the right think for you, to make decisions for your own good. You are free, created so by god (or what have you), and no man has the right, should even be allowed, to take that basic birth right of self determination from you. So, once again, I hope that Obama’s policy’s fail, because I believe they are fundamentally irreconciliable with individual liberty, and because I believe that they are the opposite of success for our nation. Dissent in this case is not merely patriotic, non-dissent is arguably treason to the principles on which our nation was founded.
